These diamonds are made from graphite at high temperatures and extreme pressures. Unlike natural diamonds, their properties can be consistently reproduced. DIAMOND TOOLS THE DIAMOND CUTTING DISC THE BOND – TO MATCH THE APPLICATION The diamonds are incorporated into a metal bond. The composition of the segment bond depends on the diamond cutting disc application. If soft/abrasive construction materials need to be cut, a hard bond is chosen for the segment. If the diamond cutting disc is intended for use on hard materials, a soft bond is the correct choice. Accordingly, the various properties of the metal bond affect the cutting ability and the wear of the individual segment. The segments on the RHODIUS diamond cutting discs are attached to the steel core using one of two methods: Laser welding The best Joint between segment and steel core. Thanks to the segment base (bond without diamonds) in the segment, the diamonds are not affected by welding: instead, laser welding fuses the metal bond with the steel core to make an exceptionally durable bond. Sintering The Joint between the segment and steel core is created by compacting the segment itself at a high pressure and temperature. Diamond discs with a continuous rim are always sintered. Continuous-rim and sintered segmented diamond discs meet the high standards required for their applications. Whether sintered or laser-welded, all diamond cutting discs are manufactured to the EN 13236 standard. The segment Joint – between steel core and segment The shape of the rim is also a key factor that determines the diamond cutting disc’s cutting speed and the ‘feel’ of the cut while working. The rim types Your path to the right product Finding the right diamond tool for your use case all depends on the material being processed. Consult the Product Finder on pp. 018 or use the application matrix (e.g. ‘Concrete’) in the relevant product chapter to find the information you need and select a product with your chosen quality reference. i ensures high-precision cuts and very clean cutting edges Segmented rim Continuous rim Turbo rim combines a clean cutting edge with short cutting times Fastest cutting speed and maximum service life with segment heights of up to 17 mm 212
